Lilith has often been portrayed as a rebellious figure from ancient stories, dwelling in darkness and judged harshly by others. In this painting, I envision her instead as a strong, independent woman reclaiming her voice as she balances between the stars, the earth, and the waters.
Lilith wears an ancient gown of passionate crimson, symbolizing strength, vitality, and creative fire. With one hand she connects with the Earth, while the other touches the magic of the water, releasing what no longer needs to be carried.
The daylilies are a reminder of the fleeting nature of life. Lilith is unafraid to look into the depths of darkness, finding within it the knowledge and wisdom she needs. Above her, the waning moon represents an ending and the release that comes with it, while the warmth of orange awakens her creative center.
The gold stars represent spirit, descending toward the Earth and falling like sparkles into the waters that surround her. As they touch the water, they create ripples that move outward—suggesting that what we carry within us can extend far beyond ourselves.
